The philosophy behind a plant based or holistic approach to health and medicine is to find the ROOT of the problem. Most likely, it is one of 3 things, a dietary imbalance, a lifestyle change needing to happen, or possible nerve interruptions. I would try any number of these things and if all else fails, contact your doctor and express concern. But first, let's see how you may be able to take control of it.
Well first of all, what is bloating? (I know most of you are hard core rolling your eyes like "oh girl let me tell ya") but really? It comes from a distress in the muscle movement during the digestive process. For me when I am bloated it feels like I am pushing my stomach out as far as possible without actually pushing, you catch my drift here? It also means your poor little tummy is full of gas because your darn liver and kidneys just won't give everything the green light to pass through.
Wow saw that one coming didn't ya. But seriously, there is SO much confusing information out there floating around for frustrated bloated folk like yourself to make sense of. Like for instance, is fiber good or bad lets SETTLE IT?!!! So here it is, fiber is both bloat inducing and preventing, ughhhhhhhhhhh!. This varies for many people but basically we have soluble an insoluble fiber. Many people have a pretty basic diet without much nutrient variation in it, this leads to a poor gut biome with limited healthy resources to pull from. Then BOOM you start being a healthy plant based person and you are gassy and bloated like never before. Take it slow, work on that little community of yours and growing its population with productive citizens, and soon you will be eating chickpeas by the handful. Oh and stop eating dairy and watch the magic happen.
Right now it seems like everyone, their mom, and their dog are bloated after every meal and that's just how it is. Well most likely the #1 Cause of it all is our massively sedentary, stressful lifestyles. We sit around, not allowing our digestive muscles to work properly, take a 15 minute walk after your meals, before bed, or right when you get up. And then we have stress, our old friend here chemically changes our body and it's functions to let us know something is wrong. This can lead to indigestion that can lead to bloating. "Well thanks for the advice Annalisa but how do I just relieve myself of stress"? I can tell ya one thing, if we all took more walks we would be happier. Just move your body and try not to sit in a slouched position after your meals.
Some of you with things like IBS and Thyroid issues will most likely have differing results than the average joe, however, that means that you more than anyone need to invest in this healthy lifestyle. Just because you can't do everything, doesn't mean you shouldn't do anything.
Make sure to contact your doctor or dietitian for guidance and advice regarding health and lifestyle changes. For extra resources on meals, check out my Plant Based Power page or check out my "What I eat in a day" video to see the real specs for calories and carbs I am taking in.
I hope this can give you insight on why all these "health" foods are making you miserable and your journey to better health. Let me know of other blog requests, questions, or if this advice levigated you of anything!
