The title is posted as a question because this is a discussion, a conversation about a movement that is intended to bring women together and solve our image issues. The more I see the body positivity and self love spread around, the more I begin to wonder why we are still obsessed with rating our and each others' value on looks.
Do I disagree that every body and every "body" is beautiful and curated in their own amazing way, ABSOLUTELY. And just to clarify, yes ladies, we should dress up and feel great about it, it is OKAY to like the way you look and to dress for your body. However I believe as women, that in order to really move the needle, we should be ability focused. We should revel at the strength, both physical and mental.
The beauty in a women doing pull ups, should be just as celebrated when she overcomes strife and heartbreak. Pigeon holing our self love to the extra weight around lower stomachs and inner thighs limit us as loving creatures.
Growing in appreciation for our bodies is so viable to our daily lives and longevity. We should nourish our bodies because we need them to last and perform for us for years to come. We should workout and get strong because our muscles and mental health require it. When we focus on healthy living for these reasons, our bodies will follow and by then, our ABILITY will outshine the body we end up with.
Ladies, all of our bodies are genetically built to be different. We need to learn to kick the comparison game, the reality is, you can do everything and more than another person and end with totally different results. We were not meant to be little cookie cutter people! We have been trained to prioritize physical size over our quality and length of life. Look back on the last 10 years of your life. How much of it has been wasted sitting and stressing about what you are eating, getting back on your routine, fitting into certain clothing, and avoiding being in pictures.
Women up. Take care of yourself, get good sleep, read and watch positive content, move your body, learn to cook good, wholesome meals, and get mad about it if you need to. This is your life, don't put it in the hands of a diet trend or celebrity, quit wasting your energy. Love yourself enough to make sure this body of yours spends a long time here on earth. Practice body positivity during your whole journey, you do not need to be complacent in your current state, but if you do not accept every stage you will never be satisfied.
Be good to yourself, be good to everyone around you, and don't be afraid of the weights section in the gym okay....it is fun I promise.
